I've got a realistic goal...

In channel hopping today (and I was working - grading papers - not just couch-potatoing), I found out that Tyra Banks is 5'10" and 160 pounds. I am the same height (maybe a 1/4-1/2" shorter) and that has been my weight goal for a while. So, that is very realistic and completely do-able for me :)

On the flip side - I've been watching what I've been eating pretty closely, and have been consistent at the gym the past week and am noticing a difference - FOUR POUNDS. Doesn't sound like much, but ANY loss is a good one :)

So, that trend is going to continue. Also, I'm going to add in swimming 3x per week - a lofty goal with my schedule, but I think I want to start training for a sprint tri - which means getting more comfortable with swimming - both distance and speed. I'm going to work on distance first, then speed. Once I get the distance under control, I'll start running. I need to lose more weight first (at least 20 pounds) to reduce impact on my knees. My goal is to start running by November. Back to swimming - I found an online link to swim 1 mile in 6 weeks. A swimmer's mile is a little different - but the sprint tri is usually only 400-600 yards in total - so I think if I can get 1650 yards in (1500 meters) and do that consistently, I can begin training for a sprint of 400-600 yards and start increasing my speed.

So, goal recap:
  • Continue eating "clean" and working out 3-4x at gym
  • Add swimming 3x per week
  • Build distance first, then speed on swims
  • Begin running program (tri-newbie program) in November OR after droppin 20 pounds - planning on sooner on weight loss so I can begin running sooner
  • Add weight training to workout - at least 2x per week.

Again, somewhat difficult with my schedule, but if I can do it, I think I will sleep better and actually be less stressed. My classes and kids have been amazing so far this year, so I've been really happy and relatively stress free at work. But, I think the workouts are also helping with it :)
